Six children die of hypothermia amid freezing conditions in Gaza

At least six children, including a newborn baby girl, have died in Gaza due to a lack of shelter from the severe cold. Forcibly displaced Palestinians are living in worn-out tents that provide minimal protection. Dr Saeed Salah, medical director of the Friends of the Patient Charitable Hospital in Gaza City, reported on Tuesday that three newborns, aged between one and two days, died shortly after being admitted. Two more children also died on Tuesday morning, and a sixth death was reported in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza. The children’s deaths come as Israel continues to block the entry of temporary housing into Gaza, despite agreeing to allow it under the ceasefire terms. Thousands of mobile homes remain stranded at the Rafah crossing with Egypt, awaiting Israeli authorisation to enter the besieged territory.
